Good things are happening at Hughenden Parish Council (and no it’s not an April Fools’ joke).

I mentioned in my last blog that the Council had met a few obstacles because both the Clerk and the deputy Clerk had left.

Obstacles like being unable to get access to its accounts and pay its creditors, or unable to access the e-mail account of the Clerk to respond to what might be urgent matters, or unable to get access to the website for posting notice of meetings and minutes as it is legally required to do. Nor did Council have access to documents or any previous correspondence.

Colin Powell, the first African-American Secretary of State for the United States,

said,

“The best method of overcoming obstacles is the team method.”

So, without any operational or administrative support for the Council for the past 2/3 weeks, councillors have had to do just that – work as a team. And I think it has worked.

Hughenden Parish Council working as a team – a revolution is happening!

Council gave a formal vote of thanks last week to Cllrs Armshaw and Jones, who have stood in as Proper Officer and Responsible Financial Officer and kept the show on the road, with the support of other councillors. The thanks were well deserved.

If you look on HPC’s website, you will see three news items for 29 March – an update on what is happening, a list of all the councillors with e-mail contacts and a job advert for a Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer which is being widely advertised. I am rather hoping that by May, the end of my first year at HPC, communications from HPC will have improved so much that I can retire my blogsite.
